Eve has saved the world, but it deems no one is too impressed. Eve: Children of the Moon #1, from BOOM Studios, takes us inside an outer space drama.

Written by Nebula award-nominated Victor LaValle, Eve is a five-issue sequel.

But it gets off to a very slow and tedious start, as we meet Eve, her sister, and a talking toy bear named Wexler. Valuable plot-development pages are wasted on non-essential chatter and introductions of characters who seem to have little to do with the story. But by the middle of the book, the storyline finally gets itself righted and launched from the nest, building some well-anticipated conflict.

Eve’s visuals rely on its heavily exaggerated facial features, and thin line contours, courtesy of Jo Mi-Gyeong, with colourist Brittany Peer adding a many-hued detailed touch. Lettering is by AndWorld Design. Editor is Elizabeth Brei.

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
