With the approach of Halloween 2022, we are “treated” with pillowcases full of horror and creepy comics this month. Take DC’s Terrors Through Time, an 80-pager that deals with time travel, at a $10 price tag.

It’s zombies menacing the JSA in the 1940s, the haunting of the Gotham City Sirens in the 1990s, and Swamp Thing battles a monster full of radiation in the future. Plus the Phantom Stranger, Deadman, Green Lantern, and other things and people bumping around in the neon night.

The Terrors Through Time consists of eight tales, mostly boogeyman-meets-hero, slice-of-life (or slice-of-death) stuff. There are no amazing revelations, no jaw-dropping moments, but the writers include Paul Levitz, Tim Seeley, Sholly “Scooby-Doo” Fitch, and Zac Thompson, among others.
And the artists include Kelley Jones at his big-eyed-expressive best, along with Raul Fernandez, Juan Doe, and a surprisingly beautifully rendered story by Jorge Corona.

It’s perhaps an uneven collection, with the stories short and sour, the horror measured by the hour, and not to everyone’s taste, but it’s Halloween-related and full of colourful entertainment.

DC Comics, DC’s Terrors Through Time, $9.99 for 80 pages of content.

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
