Comic Review: VS #1 (Image)

VS is a new title from Image. With Ivan Brandon writing and Esad Ribic (Nic Klein on colors) drawing it, hopes are high! Or… a little too high??

VS starts out strong. The creative team takes almost the first half of the entire book to the scene: outer space, two groups battling. War is a spectator sport! One champion battler is leaving rehab after extensive surgery and therapy, and he’s back in the game. How will he fare after months on the injured list?

As well executed as it is, the first issue is a quick read. The story progresses, there are lots of cool visual intrusions from broadcast network sponsors, so we ‘get the picture’: ratings and ads pay the bills, and the warriors are disposable. Maybe things will get more densely packed with value for the reader in issue two.
