Alice, From Dream to Dream, is an original graphic novel from BOOM Studios.

Written and illustrated by Giulio Macaione, it’s coloured by Giulia Adragna, and adapted into English from Italian, by Jackie Ball.

Schoolgirl Alice has been having dreams. Bad dreams. But they are actually her brother’s dreams, and Alice has been sharing them. It’s her big secret, actually. No one knows about them. But Alice is not sleeping well, and getting bullied at school by the ‘cool girls’. Alice has a friend named Jamie. She’s known him for years, and they share a love of comic books. But things are getting complicated. Jamie has learned something disturbing recently, and is starting to avoid Alice!

This graphic novel tells the story of Alice, of course, but also involves her friend Jamie and her family. Alice, From Dream to Dream is a nicely unfolding story of how dreams and reality can inter-relate, and enrich our lives. But life is full of mysteries, and we need help from kind people in our life to help us solve some of them.

The illustrations in Alice, From Dream to Dream are splendid. Macaione captures vivid underwater scenes and contrasts them beautifully with scenes in Alice’s home and school. The colouring is equally effective here. As Alice’s personal dramas progress through this richly appointed volume, we are bound to admire and linger over the pages and how imaginatively composed they are!

BOOM Studios, Alice, From Dream to Dream, $14.99 for 148 pages of content. Assume Teen rating.

After a career of graphic design, art direction and copywriting, I still have a passion for words and pictures. I love it when a comic book comes together; the story is tight, and the drawings lead me forward. Art with words... the toughest storytelling technique to get right. Was this comic book worth your money? Let's see!!
